Curcuma, also known as turmeric, is a genus of plants in the ginger family. The most well-known species are Indian turmeric (curcuma longa) and Javanese turmeric (curcuma xanthorrhiza). The spice turmeric is extracted from the plant's rhizome. This spice is so popular that it is used worldwide. It also gives curry its bright yellow color.
