The branded raw material Pycnogenol ® is extracted from the bark of the French maritime pine, Pinus pinaster, using patented and standardized processes. This tree grows exclusively in the Landes de Gascogne forest in southwest France. There, the trees are only felled when they have reached a minimum age of 30 years. After a tree is felled, it is immediately replaced with a new seedling. Herbicides and pesticides are not used in the entire forest.
Pycnogenol ® is a blend of plant substances and contains active bioflavonoids, particularly in the form of procyanidins, which belong to the proanthocyanidin group. Today, Pycnogenol ® is one of the best-researched plant extracts in the world.
