The branded raw material Pycnogenol® is extracted from the bark of the French maritime pine ( Pinus pinaster ) using patented and standardized processes. This tree grows exclusively in the Landes de Gascogne forest in southwest France. The trees are only felled there when they have reached a minimum age of 30 years. A new sapling is immediately planted after each felling. Herbicides and pesticides are not used in the entire forest area.
