How does acne develop?

Acne is a collective term for diseases of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. Normally, special glands in the skin secrete a fatty substance called sebum (Latin: sebum). This sebum reaches the skin's surface via a duct along the hair shaft, where it forms a protective film. In acne, too much sebum is produced, for example due to the hormonal changes during puberty. Sebum production is mainly influenced by sex hormones. If the duct is then blocked, for example because too many horny cells are produced there due to a hereditary predisposition, the sebum can build up. This leads to the formation of comedones, better known as blackheads or pimples. Special bacteria (e.g. Propionibacterium acnes) can multiply in the accumulated sebum, which can lead to inflammation of the surrounding tissue. The clinical picture of acne includes comedones (blackheads), papules, pustules, or pimples, and in severe cases, even scars. The face, décolleté, neck, and upper back are most commonly affected. There are various forms of acne. It most commonly affects adolescents, but it can also occur at any age.

For the Clear Skin Gel we use an ethanolic extract from the leaves of Artemisia annua, very similar to our popular Artemisia gel . Our Artemisia plants are organically cultivated. They are cultivated, harvested, and processed by hand in Switzerland. We use only the dried leaf tips and no stems or woody parts, ensuring superior quality. The valuable active ingredients are extracted and used for the gel.

D-panthenol

D-Panthenol (also dexpanthenol or Provitamin B5 is found in many skin care products. It increases the skin's moisture retention and has nourishing and regenerating properties. Furthermore, D-panthenol also has soothing properties and can stimulate wound healing. We rely on a high content of nourishing D-panthenol.

Vitamin C (as sodium ascorbyl phosphate)

Vitamin C is chemically a "mimosa," meaning it is very unstable and can only penetrate the skin in very small amounts. For this reason, Clear Skin Gel contains a special form of vitamin C, namely sodium ascorbyl phosphate (a water-soluble salt of ascorbic acid). This is only converted to vitamin C in the skin, thus ensuring greater stability. Vitamin C can support connective tissue metabolism and collagen production in the skin. Vitamin C also has a positive effect on the skin barrier and can provide nourishing support for blemished skin conditions.

Aloe vera

The Aloe vera gel The gel in Clear Skin Gel comes from the inner leaf. It is quickly absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin and is free of aloin, which is found in the outer leaf and is toxic. The aloe vera gel has an itch-relieving, cooling, and moisturizing effect. We produce the aloe vera gel ourselves from organic aloe vera powder. This makes us independent of suppliers and their formulations (thickeners, preservatives, etc.).

What is the advantage of a gel?

The formulation is a fat-free, water-based gel (= Hydrogel), which forms a thin layer on the skin. The individual ingredients are enclosed in this layer and are therefore available to the skin for longer, meaning the caring effect is stronger and longer lasting. The gel is easy to apply and spreads evenly on the skin. It does not become sticky after drying and does not feel tight on the skin. We use natural xanthan gum as a gelling agent. It forms beautiful gels and is very easy to apply. Xanthan gum is produced by fermentation from glucose or starch using a special bacterium.
